At that time, she was the only woman who was commanding an army contingent of any country. She led an Indian team of 40 soldiers.
Colonel Sofia's journey so far
Sofia, who hails from Gujarat, has done post graduation in biochemistry, which shows a great coordination between her studies and army training. She is from the Signal Corps, which handles the responsibility of the army's communication and information system.
In 2006, she was posted in Congo under the UN Peacekeeping Mission and has been playing an important role in peace missions for more than 6 years. She was selected from the Peacekeeping Training Group, which provides the best training for international missions. She has an old relationship with the army. Her grandfather was in the army, and her husband is an officer in the Mechanized Infantry.
