Thai police issue chilling warning about imminent attack at 'Full Moon' tourist party

Police in have issued a chilling warning after receiving information about a potential attack aimed at a party on a tourist hotspot island.

Thai Police warned in an official document that there are plans to carry out an attack against tourists on the island of Koh Phangan. The party, which is very popular with Israeli tourists is due to take place on Friday, which is a special occasion in Thailand known as Loy Krathong, the Festival of Lights.

Intensive operations are being carried out by police in response to the alerts, with roadblocks being used. According to sources familiar with the matter, it is based on concrete information about an intention to harm Israelis.

A security official in said the issue is known as being handled, regardless of an internal document from Thai police. The source added that an announcement from the National Security Council (NSC) is expected imminently.

The island of Koh Phangan is known for its huge full moon parties, where beaches are packed into the early hours of the morning the night before or after the appearance of a full moon. The parties are particularly popular with Israeli tourists, with travel agents such as Erez Roth, who lives in Kosmoy, taking Israelis to full moon parties each year.
