Liam Payne's friend held back tears as he paid tribute to the singer while on

Presenter and radio host Roman struggled as he appeared live on TV. He issued a statement at the start of the programme on Thursday night following the shock news of Liam's death. Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening.

Police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of a hotel building after Liam tragically fell. A body was found in an internal patio of the hotel. The police were called to the hotel by the hotel manager. It's believed that Liam fell from the third floor and suffered "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

On the One Show, host Alex started the programme by saying: "Before we start the show, we want to pay tribute to Liam Payne, the former star, who sadly died last night. We have had so many messages from fans." She then read out some messages from fans expressing their sadness at Liam's death.

Alex added: "Liam obviously has been on the show many, many times but of course Roman, as you know, you knew him well." Roman, who was visibly upset, shared: "Yeah, I mean, he is a friend of mine and it is so surreal talking about it now. It doesn't feel right. All I can say is that he had so much talent as a young man and was someone who was so loved by so many people."

He added: "The main thing as well about Liam is that, and I don’t know if people really know this, but behind the camera he was so kind - to everyone. He always just wanted to put a smile on people’s faces. I was absolutely devastated obviously. All of our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very tough time.

Liam’s family have spoken publicly following the tragic news. In a they shared: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”

Reports claim that Liam had checked into a hotel alone before his death. City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti said he had fallen around 40 metres and suffered “severe injuries which were incompatible with life.” The late hitmaker was holidaying with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who recently returned back to her hometown in America.

During his time in the country, Liam reunited with One Direction bandmate Niall Horan and was spotted at his show on October 2. Liam One, because we have to, and two, because we want to, and three, It's been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We've got a lot to talk about and I would like to square up a couple things with the boy. No bad vibes or nothing like that, but just, we need to talk."
