Pep Guardiola drops huge hint on taking England job: "Anything can happen!"

Manchester City boss has claimed "anything can happen" after being asked about taking the England job - saying he is still mulling over his future.

The Spaniard's current deal at the Etihad expires at the end of the season and he is yet to agree a contract extension. And the ex-Barcelona and boss is one of the managers linked to taking with becoming the next Three Lions boss.

left the post after taking England to the Euro 2024 final this summer, where they were beaten 2-1 by Spain, with since taking charge on an interim basis for the last three matches but yet to emerge as a favourite for the full-time role.

Guardiola has won 18 trophies with City and many pundits believe his time with the club could soon be coming to an end after remaining coy on his future - and he left the door open to a possible move to take on the English national team job.

"I haven't finished my career at yet, I still have to think about it," he told

"It's not true that I'll be the England coach. I haven't decided anything yet, if I had decided my future at I would say so, anything can happen in life."

Guardiola comments come after Carsley suggested England might need a " class coach who has won trophies" - and Guardiola would certainly fit that category.

Speaking after guiding England to a 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday evening, the former midfielder told Sport: "I've not really thought much about it. I keep saying the same thing. My remit was to do six games. I'm really happy with that.

"I think people are always going to put their chips on one side. I'm totally in the middle. My bosses have made it totally clear what they need from me. This job deserves a class coach that's won trophies and been there and done it - and I'm still on the path to doing that."

However, he later clarified that he "definitely" didn't think the full-time job had come too soon for him, adding: "I tried to make it as clear as I could - anytime we speak like this - my remit was three camps.

"The point I was trying to make is that it’s one of the top jobs in the world and I’m not part of the process but it deserves a top coach. The players we have available, we’ve got a real chance of winning. That was the point I was making."
