Footage shows a drug dealer caught hiding weapons in his loft after eagle-eyed police spotted a vital clue in his hair.

Officers received a tip-off that Lomar Turner was hiding guns at his home and were searching the property in Handsworth, Birmingham.

Bodycam footage shows Turner, 28, appearing nervous when he was quizzed by police during the raid on November 27 last year. The clip also shows bits of white polystyrene in Turner’s hair which came from the hatch door of his attic.

When police searched the loft they discovered two guns stuffed in black and white socks. Officers also seized two machetes and an axe along with multiple bags of cannabis worth £2,000, thousands in cash and several sim cards.

Turner was arrested and later admitted to two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence. He also pleaded guilty to possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

He was jailed for six years at Birmingham Crown Court on September 20. Detective Constable Leah Williams, from Birmingham Major Investigation Team, said: “Turner was involved in serious criminal activity and any one of those weapons could have been responsible for taking a life or inflicting serious injury.

“There is absolutely no reason or excuse to have weapons like this in anyone’s home or on our streets. We continue to act on information to disrupt behaviour like this and take these dangerous people and weapons off our streets.”

A statement from West Midlands Police read: "A Birmingham man has been jailed for firearms offences after eagle-eyed officers spotted loft insulation in his hair, alerting them to his hiding place. Information suggested that Lomar Turner was in possession of weapons so a firearms warrant was executed at his address in New Inns Close, Handsworth on 27 November last year.

"It was several minutes before the door was opened and officers found a nervous Turner with bits of polystyrene and insulation in his hair. Their attention was immediately drawn to the loft, the hatch door of which was lined with polystyrene. A search revealed two loaded and viable firearms in a black pouch, with one in a white sock.

"Elsewhere in the property, officers found multiple bags of cannabis with a street value of over £2000, several thousands of pounds in cash, multiple sim cards, two machetes and an axe. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition without a licence. He also pleaded guilty to possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and possession of criminal property. Last Friday (20 September), he was jailed for six years at Birmingham Crown Court."
