Manchester United names Europa League squad for Porto game with surprise inclusion

Manchester United has named Dan Gore in their 23-man squad for the Europa League clash against FC Porto.

Gore, who captained the Under-21s against Hertha Berlin on Tuesday night and played just over an hour, has joined the United first team on their journey to Porto.

The 20-yearold was handed his first-team debut by Erik ten Hag last September. Despite being highly regarded within the academy, Gore only made his return to action last week after an eight-month injury layoff and is now working to regain his form.

  • Jamie Carragher reaction to Bukayo Saka's Arsenal title statement speaks volumes
  • I had no regrets quitting Everton - now I could get a big-money move to Liverpool
  • Both Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire participated in full training at Carrington on Wednesday and have been included in the squad, having recovered from their respective injuries.

Mainoo's inclusion comes as a significant boost for United, especially after he appeared to strain his hamstring before half-time against Tottenham at the weekend.

While Maguire has recently lost his starting position to Matthijs de Ligt, his availability for selection in Portugal is positive news.

However, Mason Mount will not be part of the squad after suffering a head injury against Tottenham. Although club sources confirmed that Mount did not sustain a concussion, he has not been deemed fit enough to travel and will stay in Manchester as United depart.

United's 23-man squad for the Porto match includes:.

    Goalkeepers: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton.

Defenders: De Ligt, Evans, Maguire, Lindelof, Martinez, Dalot, Mazraoui.

Midfielders: Fernandes, Gore, Mainoo, Eriksen, Ugarte, Collyer, Casemiro.

Attackers: Amad, Garnacho, Hojlund, Antony, Rashford, Zirkzee.
