Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold 'submits £84m bid' to buy Ligue 1 club FC Nantes

Trent Alexander-Arnold has made an offer to takeover FC Nantes, according to reports in France.

The Liverpool defender, 25, has been the subject of transfer speculation involving Real Madrid recently and, with his contract set to expire next year, there has been plenty of focus on his future plans.

But it has now emerged that the England international has his sights set on buying into Nantes, the Ligue 1 club currently owned by French businessman Waldemar Kita.

According to a new report from L'Equipe, Alexander-Arnold and his father, Michael, had held talks with the club hierarchy remotely in the summer before meeting in person more recently.

It's outlined that Alexander-Arnold's offer for the club, made through a London investment firm managed by his father, stands at €100million (£84m): €80m upfront with a further €20m down the line plus a potential €40m in bonuses.

A third meeting between the parties took place in London on Thursday, where it's claimed the proposed financials did not meet Kita's valuation.

The Nantes chief is said to be 'furious' at the leak of Alexander-Arnold's interest and he has subsequently denied the reports.

Alexander-Arnold is said to have considered purchasing AS Saint-Etienne and Le Havre before choosing to proceed with his bid for Nantes, who have won eight French titles in their history.

The defender is already a minority shareholder in the French Formula 1 team, Alpine.

Away from takeover talks, Alexander-Arnold's contract situation, coupled with interest from long-term admirers Real Madrid, has left some fans anxious about his long-term future at Anfield.

A recent report from The Independent revealed that the sought after right-back is continuing to assess the post-Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool with new head coach Arne Slot now calling the shots at Anfield.

He stressed he was relaxed about the fact Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all inside the final 12 months of their contract recently, where he also revealed that there was nothing new to report in terms of new agreements.

“Again, I’ll give the boring answer, which you’re going to get from me as long as there’s no news about this, but we don’t talk about contract situations over here,” the Dutchman said last week.

“Is it distracting? Is that the word you used for me? No, it isn’t because I’m fully focused on the individuals in the team and they’re part of the team. I’m just focused on trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them. So it’s not a distraction for me at all.”
