Liverpool give injury updates on Alisson, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa

Jota's unavailability coupled with Slot's decision to rest Darwin Nunez in Liverpool's Carabao Cup win over Brighton saw Dominik Szoboszlai deployed further forward, and the Reds boss was encouraged to see his side score three times after lining up without an out-and-out striker.

"The good thing was that when you look at our forward line, we could play two of our regular starters in Gakpo and Diaz, and they had a big impact on the scoresheet of course," Slot said.

"The way we filled in our No.9 position was interesting to see because I think it worked out really well, but I usually prefer to play with a real No.9. It is maybe now an extra possibility that we have, if we have injuries. To play with Curtis [Jones] and Dom, those are definitely midfielders where Diogo is a striker. It was good to see that we could score three goals without playing an old-fashioned No.9."
