Liverpool ace hailed as 'best in the world' three years after Jurgen Klopp said the same thing

Andy Robertson's status as the "best left-back in the world" has been reaffirmed, echoing Jurgen Klopp's sentiments from three years ago. Since his transfer from Hull City to Liverpool in 2017, Robertson has firmly established himself as an indispensable figure at Anfield, racking up over 300 appearances for the Reds.

During his tenure with Liverpool, Robertson has been instrumental in securing a host of silverware, including the Premier League and Champions League titles. The Scottish international, capped 76 times, continues to be a pivotal player under Arne Slot's management.

Robertson has been ever-present this season, starting all five league matches under Slot's guidance. And his prowess has not gone unnoticed, with former Southampton ace Romain Perraud singing his praises.

  • Gary Neville just fell into the same Liverpool trap again and Arne Slot can prove him wrong
  • My favorite player is set for $100m move and Liverpool must beat Real Madrid to ultimate Arne Slot target
  • Perraud, who encountered Robertson on the pitch during his stint at St Mary's, regards the Scot as a source of inspiration. In a conversation with El Correo de Andalucia, Perraud expressed his admiration: "For the last four or five years, I think the best left-back in the world is Robertson from Liverpool. When I have time, it's important for me to see his ability to play in this position. He's a very, very good example."

This isn't the first occasion that Robertson has received such high praise; Klopp previously suggested he was the world's top left-back in 2021 amidst debates over whether Kostas Tsimikas should be given more game time.

Klopp expressed his confidence in Tsimikas, suggesting he's inching close to first-choice Robertson. "Kostas is very close he has a lot of quality he can push Robertson," asserted Klopp. "But Robertson in my eyes is the best left-back in the world but it's good we have the options to give Robbo a rest in moments even when he doesn't like it."

Jose Enrique, former Reds' defender, resonated with Klopp's praise this year. He remarked: "He has surprised everyone. When he arrived at Liverpool it was hard in a big club after coming from Hull City."

Additionally, Enrique highlighted Robertson's rise since his move from Hull City to Anfield. "Alberto Moreno was starting ahead of him but for me, he has been the best left-back in the world for the last few years," he said. "I know everyone talks about [Alphonso] Davies from Bayern Munich, but if you talk about consistency and level of performance, this guy is unbelievable."

Speaking about Robertson's consistency, he added: "Liverpool play about every three days and this guy always gives you a good performance and for me, he is the player of the season for Liverpool."

Liverpool.com says: Given his solid run of form, Robertson may get some downtime as Liverpool lines up against West Ham in the Carabao Cup at Anfield, potentially opening the door for Tsimikas to feature in the starting XI. Joe Gomez will also be hoping for a rare start.
