How Liverpool players reacted in dressing room after Wolves win

Alexis Mac Allister revealed that there was an acceptance from Liverpool's players that they didn't perform to the best of their abilities during Saturday's 2-1 victory at Molineux.

The Reds made it five wins from six games as Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah scored against Wolves, but they were made to work hard for the three points by Gary O'Neil's struggling side.

Arne Slot and his players went into the match knowing that a win would be enough to take them to the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City was held to a draw by Newcastle earlier in the day, but lacked intensity for significant periods of the match.

Wolves had the better of the opening 15 minutes before the Reds grew into the game, and Konate's goal on the stroke of half-time looked as though it might prompt a flurry of goals after the break.

However, Wolves equalised through Rayan Ait-Nouri after some sloppy defending by Konate, and Liverpool required a Salah penalty to get over the line.

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the match, World Cup winner Mac Allister said: "I think everyone in the dressing room knows it wasn't the best performance but the good thing is that we got the win. Of course, there is still room for improvement but the important thing is that we got the three points."

The midfielder admitted that Wolves took Liverpool by surprise with its game plan, pressing with intensity from the off and also overcoming Liverpool's plan to press from the front with Mohamed Salah, triggering a number of attacks down Liverpool's right side.

"I think we expected a different game from them," Mac Allister added. "We have to give credit to them as well because they did a very good job, pressing high and in their build-up from the back as well. We tried to press with Mo to the center-back but they adapted really well and played quite a few balls to the left-back that put us in trouble, but I think in the second half the team adapted well and thats why we got the win."
