Benidorm rain latest: New maps show the huge 'storm' smashing major holiday destination

New maps show the extent of a huge storm which is poised to hit a holiday destination. Several days of wet weather are predicted in the east coast of Spain where is situated.

Charts currently show driving in from the west of the country before battering the sunshine areas of Alicante and Benidorm between November 11 and 13. These forecasts can change dramatically at little notice.

The normally sunny hotspot is visited by many Brits who travel there to escape cold and wet conditions in the UK. Longer range forecasts, however, have warned about "flash-flooding" in coastal areas of northeast Spain. Warnings have been in force for flooding for in the areas of Castellon and Tarragon.

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, told the Mirror: "Barcelona is seeing a fistful today, but there is not too much for Spain for the next several days. My main thoughts are shifting to central Med - Malta, southern Italy, Sardinia, Tunisia and Algeria, maybe southern Greece & Cyprus in time.

"That’s where the low pressure will be centred, so whilst nothing OTT in the frame right now, give it a few days. The warm Med is still the catalyst for potential torrential rain going forwards."

Longer-range forecast for Spain

The predicted three days of rain is focused mainly on the east of Spain where many holiday destinations are situated. The rainfall is expected to hit coastal areas of eastern Spain sparking fears of chaos after the devastation in Valencia.

Accuweather forecasts also suggest rain is set to fall on the eastern coast of Spain - but does not detail how much.

Just last week, carnage ensued on Valencia as cars and buildings were swept away by severe flooding which devastated the area. Rescue operations are still continuing to clear up debris and fell in eight hours. The death toll continues to rise 205 and scores of people are still missing or unaccounted for.

Areas, including parks, gardens and cemeteries, have been cordoned off in preparation for the which could bring several inches of rain in only a few short hours. Homeless people have also been evacuated from areas of Palma and Majorca, where thousands of Brits are on holiday.

Weather warnings were previously in place as the country's national weather service Aemet, warned 120mm of water could fall in around three hours, causing havoc in its streets.
