BBC Breakfast audiences were split on a news segment, with some celebrating it as "best telly" and others slamming it as "moronic".

This morning saw and cosy up on the renowned red settee to dive into today's top stories, tackling topics from the conflict in Gaza to the news that UK banks must refund fraud victims starting Monday, October 7.

Despite the heavy headlines, attention shifted when Charlie and Naga got onto the subject of the impending Conkers Championships, which is poised to take place this weekend.

In a light-hearted twist, the duo chatted with Chris Quigley, the Peckham Conker Club mastermind, who was armed with conkers so the anchors could take a crack at demonstrating their prowess.

Childhood player Charlie took a trip down memory lane with his turn, while complete beginner Naga looked on, reports .

Charlie went first, heeding Chris' whimsical advice to "kiss" his conker, then wildly took a swing at the guest's conker.

Following Charlie's energetic attempt, Chris couldn't resist exclaiming, "Woah you went for that! " and humorously rated him: "I'd give that an 11! ".

Naga labelled his technique "aggressive" and cheekily suggested "Charlie the Conqueror" as a fitting nickname.

Then came Naga's debut, with Charlie cautiously stepping back as she attempted to strike Chris' conker, remarking: "Never done it before in my life."

Despite the playful nature of the piece, not all viewers were enamoured. Some vented their frustration online, with one critic posting on X: "Another no news day" and another dismissing the item as "dire TV".

Tension even mounted with a comment highlighting the stark contrast to global affairs: "All the s*** going on in the and they're showing you how to play conkers".

One viewer remarked: "This conkers bit is moronic and another chimed in: "God help us".However, not all viewers were critical of the segment, with one fan exclaiming: "Your conker piece was the best telly in years!"

""Best thing on TV this AM on @BBCBreakfast is watching Naga and Charlie playing conkers!", another agreed, suggesting: "Should be done every morning with all morning teams. "

A third viewer found humour in the situation, chuckling: "It was 'pretty normal sized nuts' and "'does size matter' that had me sniggering in a very childish way!"
