Jaipur: Even as state govt scrapped nine of the 17 new districts created by the previous Congress govt, the state Congress has sent a proposal to All India Congress Committee (AICC) to approve the appointment of 50 district presidents in Rajasthan.
According to Congress sources, the party's state unit wants each Lok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan to have two district presidents. The state Congress presently has presidents in 42 districts. Rajasthan now has 41 districts and seven divisions, down from 50 districts and 10 divisions.
As per this proposal, there will be two presidents in Jaipur Rural (Jaipur North and South) and one in Jaipur City. Sikar will also have two district heads – Sikar and Neem Ka Thana, the latter being one of the new districts scrapped by the current govt.
Congress has also proposed the appointment of two district heads in Bhilwara for Shahpura, which was one of the new districts scrapped by the current govt, and Bhilwara.
The districts that were scrapped by the state's BJP govt are Jaipur Rural, Jodhpur Rural, Sanchore, Shahpura, Dudu, Kekri, Neem-Ka-Thana, Anoopgarh and Gangapur. Eight of the 17 new districts created by the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress govt were retained: Balotra, Beawar, Deedwana-Khuchman, Kotputli-Behror, Deeg, Khairtal-Tijara, Phalodi and Salumber.
