Chandigarh: The operation cell of UT police claimed to have busted an international gang of drug peddlers by arresting four persons, including one African woman. Police said the gang was allegedly linked with Pakistan's ISI, used to shared secret information about the Indian Army in Bikaner, and sent drugs through drones from Pakistan.
On March 24, the operation cell team deployed at a check post near ISBT, Sector 43, apprehended a person, Akashdeep Singh, alias Akash, a resident of Tarn Taran, Punjab. Cops claimed to have recovered 297.40 grams of heroin from his possession. During the investigation, he disclosed that he was involved in drug peddling with his associate, Shamsher Singh, alias Shera. He, along with Shamsher Singh, supplied heroin in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Based on this information, the operation cell team raided Algon Kothi village and Bhagwanpura village in Tarn Taran, near the border with Pakistan. The police cordoned off the house of the accused, Shamsher Singh, in Bhagwanpura. Upon seeing the police party, the accused, Shamsher Singh, fled through a secret door of his house. The cops chased him, but he managed to hide in the fields. After a long search, cops succeeded in arresting him. The mobile phone used in the crime was recovered from his possession.
During investigation, Shamsher Singh disclosed that he was associated with his cousin brother, Gurlal, alias Lala, who is presently confined in Goindwal jail in an NDPS case. He is in touch with ISI agents.
In a separate case, the operation cell team deployed a check post near ISBT, Sector 17, apprehended a foreign woman, Shufaa, also known as Shufee, a resident of Tanzania, presently residing in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi. During her search, police claimed to have recovered 100 crack balls from her possession. Police seized the cocaine balls and arrested her.
During the investigation, she disclosed that she is a drug supplier and supplies drugs to the drug peddlers active in Chandigarh and Punjab. In 2018, she was arrested with 550 grams of heroin, which is a commercial quantity, by Punjab Police. During the trial, the Jalandhar court sentenced her to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. After coming out on bail, she again started smuggling drugs, cops said. Police produced her before the local court, which sent her to judicial custody.
